The goal
of the AAWR Research & Education Foundation is to provide Professional
Leadership
Awards and Research Grants to AAWR members. The Foundation sponsors one
junior and one mid-career AAWR member to attend the Association of American
Medical Colleges (AAMC) Professional Development Seminars. The AAWR Research
Grant Program is designed to support research projects conducted by AAWR
members. The AAWR Research & Education Foundation thrives on donations
from our members and support from our corporate partners.

LEADERSHIP AWARDS:
AAMC
Professional Development Seminar for Mid-Career Women Faculty
This seminar is for mid-career women faculty (in the rank of at least
Associate Professor) with clear potential for advancement to a major
administrative position such as section or department head. Objectives
are to provide participants with insights into the realities of gaining
a senior administrative position in academic medicine; to assist attendees
in developing key skill and knowledge areas related to leadership in
academic medicine; and to give attendees opportunities to expand their
network of colleagues. At the time of nomination, applicants must be working
in an academic institution in the U.S. or Canada. Applicant must have
become an AAWR member prior to January 1 of the year applying for the
award.
The
successful applicant will be provided with meeting registration fee
only. All other expenditures will be at the expense of the applicant. Please
note that the documents below will only be accepted electronically

Professional Development Seminar for Early-Career Faculty
This seminar is tailored to women at the assistant professor level during
the time of application, who are aiming for a position of leadership
in academic medicine. It is targeted primarily at physicians but is also
pertinent for Ph.D. Researchers involved in collaborations with clinicians.
Objectives are to assist each participant in creating an agenda for working
toward her professional development goals; to provide participants with
insights into the realities of building a career in academic medicine,
into key ways in which academic medicine is changing, and into leadership
qualities demanded by these realities and changes; to help participants
to expand their network of colleagues and role models; and to assist
participants in identifying the skill areas on which they most need to
work and give them a start in developing them. At the time of nomination,

Canada. Applicant must have become an AAWR member prior to January 1
of the year applying for the award.

GRANT PROGRAM:
Member-in-Training
Award for Outstanding ARRS Presentation in
Diagnostic Radiology
The AAWR
Research and Education Foundation will give a $500 cash award for professional
development for an outstanding scientific presentation in diagnostic
radiology at the ARRS annual meeting. Applicants must have been members
of the AAWR for one year at the time of the application. Eligible fellows/residents
may apply by writing a letter of application and including the title
of the paper or abstract and unique ID number. Enclose a copy of the
abstract, the letter of acceptance, current curriculum vitae, and letters
of support from the department chair and AAWR nominating member with
the letter of application. Please note that the documents above

Award for Outstanding ASTRO Presentation in Radiation Oncology
The AAWR Research and Education Foundation will give a certificate of
recognition to an individual for their professional development for an
outstanding scientific presentation in radiation oncology at the ASTRO
annual meeting. Applicants must be a member of the AAWR on January 1
of the year of application. Eligible fellows/residents may apply by writing
a letter of application and including the title of the paper or abstract
and unique ID number. Enclose a copy of the abstract, the letter of acceptance,
current curriculum vitae, and letters of support from the department
chair and AAWR nominating member with the letter of application. Please

Awards for Outstanding RSNA Presentations in Diagnostic Radiology
and Radiation Oncology
The AAWR Research and Education Foundation will give two certificates
of recognition for professional development to fellows/residents who
are both first authors and presenters of abstracts accepted for scientific
presentation at the RSNA annual meeting, one for diagnostic radiology
and the other for radiation oncology. Applicants must be a member of
the AAWR on January 1 of the year of application.. Eligible fellows/residents
may apply by writing a letter of application and including the title
of the paper or abstract and unique ID number. Enclose a copy of the
abstract, the letter of acceptance, current curriculum vitae, and letters
of support from the department chair and AAWR nominating member with
the letter of application.

Research
Seed Grant
PURPOSE: To assist AAWR investigators gain experience in testing
hypotheses and defining objectives before they apply for major grants
from corporations, foundation or government agencies, by underwriting
preliminary studies required prior to seeking major funding for a project.
AMOUNT:
One year grant of $5,000 or less, payable to the Department in two equal
installments. The first installment will be paid in November at the RSNA
Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting. The second installment will be
paid at the conclusion of the study, after a review of the study has been
submitted to the AAWR newsletter, Focus, and been submitted either for
scientific presentation, work in progress, or a peer reviewed journal.
The Foundation does not pay institutional overhead costs.
REQUIREMENTS:
AAWR Research Seed grant is targeted to active AAWR members who require
support to explore the initial approach to a research plan, and to
provide experience supporting an application for a more comprehensive
study of the research topic. Again, the applicant must be an active
member of the AAWR and should hold an academic position in the rank
of Instructor or Assistant Professor, and should not have served
as principal investigator in a major ($50,000 or more) grant.
OTHER PROVISIONS:

Any
area of radiology-related research is eligible including basic,
clinical; developmental; health care planning, delivery, and evaluation;
and education. |

Funding
is for new projects, not to support portions of large, previously
funded work.

Final
report is to be submitted to the AAWR Research and Education Foundation
within 60 days after completion of the project. Project should be
completed within a two-year period.

The
start date for the grant is in November at the RSNA Annual Meeting.
|
| |
All
scientific publications and exhibits resulting from Foundation supported
research must acknowledge AAWR Research and Education Foundation
support.

| |
Applicant
