COMMUNITY & SUPPORT
We address social and economic issues facing women in radiology, radiation oncology, radiobiology and physics. We encourage and support greater participation of women at all levels in radiological societies, and promote women in leadership positions.

PROGRAMS
We sponsor lectures and discussions on topics of interest to women including career development, gender equity, mentoring in radiology, and tailoring professional careers to help balance the needs of home and the workplace.

ACTIVITIES
Our program committee develops refresher courses at RSNA and ARRS annual meetings. We hold luncheon discussion sessions at major national meetings, including the RSNA, ACR, ARRS, ASTRO and SPR annual meetings.

PUBLICATIONS
We provide members with quarterly Focus newsletters, which is available online and with publications related to radiation protection. New members receive the Pocket Mentor, a manual for radiology residents and junior faculty, which contains guidance and advice on many work-related and personal matters.

WEB SITE & ON-LINE MEMBER NETWORK
We have established a web site to update AAWR members on activities of the organization, to provide electronic publications, and to offer tools for community building and networking. The members network section of the web site includes the on-line membership directory, AAWR publications, and a message board.

FREE MEMBERSHIP FOR MEDICAL STUDENTS, 1st and 2nd YEAR TRAINEES
Membership for 4TH YEAR medical students attending an accredited US or Canadian medical school, 1st and 2nd year residents are free, and dues are discounted for 3rd-5th year residents, fellows and radiologists in their first two years of practice. We now accept international corresponding members at a reduced fee, increasing our network of women in the radiologic sciences.

AWARDS
Each year, we recognize and award women who have been outstanding in the fields of radiology or radiation oncology, who have excelled as educators, role models, researchers, and residents in training.

RESEARCH & EDUCATION FOUNDATION
Our Research and Education Foundation awards our members with research seed grants and also sponsors two women annually, one junior faculty and one senior faculty, to attend the American Association of Medical Colleges' excellent Professional Development Seminars for Women Faculty.

ACR FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION
We encourage members to apply for fellowship in the ACR, provide helpful information to assist in the application process, and honor new women fellows with a luncheon at the annual ACR meeting.

NETWORKING

We promote networking opportunities for women that result in valuable contacts and the exchange of current information - the female equivalent of the "old boys club". The AAWR has representation on and submits names to many radiologic organizations to serve on committees and to promote women in radiology, radiation oncology, biology and physics at national and international levels.
