New AAMC Analysis Projects Increased Share of Female Applicants
A new AAMC analysis of undergraduate degree trends projects that medical
schools will see a greater share of female applicants over the next
10 years.
Women are projected to earn 60 percent of the annual baccalaureate degrees
awarded nationally by 2015. This, coupled with women's more consistent
interest in medicine than men, suggests that the number of women applying
to
medical school could top 18,500 by 2015, compared to a projected 17,300
male
applicants. More information: www.aamc.org/data/aib
