Karen L. Reuter, MD, FACR - 1993 President of AAWR

Medicine has been a life-long interest.  In grade school I chose books for reports on the history of medicine and biographies of health care professionals such as Clara Barton.  Television shows such as Dr. Kildare, Ben Casey and Frontier Doctor were entertainments I enjoyed.

As with many of my college contemporaries I first prepared for a career in teaching, in my case, biology in high school. After embarking on this path, immediately adding genetics to the preplanned teaching curriculum, and teaching high school for one year I completed a masters program in biology and then medical school.  It was the training to become a physician which was my most satisfying endeavor; I knew early on in medical school I had made the correct decision. Currently I am a Professor of Radiology through Tufts Medical School.  To show my appreciation for my medical training at Tufts I am an active alumna of my class and serve on the Alumni Council for the School.
