AAWR received the 2005 Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Women in Medicine Leadership Development Award

On November 8, 2005, the American Association for Women Radiologists (AAWR) was honored with the 2005 Women in Medicine Leadership Development Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). The award was accepted on behalf of AAWR by 2005 AAWR President Katarzyna J. Macura, MD, PhD, Inaugural AAWR President Carol M. Rumack, MD, FACR, and AAWR Founding Member and Historian Ann M. Lewicki, MD, MPH, FACR.

This award is a tribute to all women leaders and officers of AAWR who have worked hard since 1981 to implement strategies for networking and mentoring, to address issues unique to women in radiology, radiation oncology and related professions, to develop educational programs, and to promote opportunities and career development for women in Radiology. AAMC’s award is an important recognition of AAWR’s long term commitment to the advancement of women.

Many factors have contributed to the AAWR success over the years. In the recent article in Radiology “American Association for Women Radiologists: Its Birth and 25 Years Later” (Radiology 2005; 237: 19-25) Ann M. Lewicki reflects on the early years of the society, recounts its inception, growth, and maturation to the widely accepted and respected organization.

As 2005 winner, AAWR was invited to participate in the panel “Change Agents for Improving Academic Life” held on November 7, 2005. Carol Rumack, MD, FACR, Ann Lewicki, MD, MPH, FACR, and Katarzyna J. Macura, MD, PhD spoke on behalf of AAWR.
