Kristin Kelly Porter, MD, PhD

Assistant Professor, Abdominal Imaging Section, UAB Department of Radiology


Dr. Kristin Porter is an Assistant Professor in the Abdominal Imaging Section of the Department of Radiology at UAB (the University of Alabama at Birmingham) in Birmingham, AL.  She completed her undergraduate training at Dartmouth College (Hanover, NH), graduating in 1998. After working for two years as a biologist in Pfizer’s neuroscience drug discovery division in Groton, CT, she returned to the MD/PhD program at Dartmouth College.  She completed her PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience in 2004 and her MD in 2009 at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical School.  After completing her radiology residency in the Department of Radiology and Radiological Science at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2014 and the Body and Cardiovascular MRI Fellowship at Johns Hopkins in 2015, she joined their Diagnostic Imaging faculty in the Body Imaging Division at Johns Hopkins until 2016. In 2016 she joined the Abdominal Imaging Section at UAB.
 
Dr. Porter is certified by the American Board of Radiology.  She is a reviewer for Abdominal Radiology and a question writer for the American College of Radiology (ACR) RADAR2 ultrasound section and for the ACR and ADPR (Association of Program Directors in Radiology) Radexam MR section. Her primary research interests focus on Quantitative MR techniques.  She is a prior Siemens Healthcare/RSNA Research Fellow Grant award recipient and a National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Predoctoral MD/
PhD
 Fellowship recipient.
